The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts will be relocating to a new location and will be closed on until the move is complete. They will plan to reopen spring of 2021.
Michigan’s largest multidisciplinary contemporary arts center – known as UICA to locals – engages visitors through a wide variety of creative experiences, including visual art, music, film, literature, dance and performance art.
UICA features gallery exhibitions of work from regional, national and international artists throughout the year. It also hosts a wide range of events, including performance art, concerts, artist receptions, gallery talks, group tours and student internships.
The distinctive UICA building sits at the literal center of Grand Rapids, reflecting the city’s vibrant and progressive art scene, and serving as the gateway to the Avenue for the Arts.
The UICA Movie Theater shows independent, international and documentary movies in downtown Grand Rapids every Tuesday-Sunday, all year ‘round.
Drop in anytime during gallery hours and use The Studio’s materials to explore your own creativity – it’s fun for the whole family.
Monthly interviews and guest features highlight local and regional artists and cultural organizations.
The Shop at UICA carries handmade home goods, art and design books, artwork by local and regional artists and designers, and a selection of art supplies.
